Department of Physics
University of Colorado
Shuo Sun is an assistant professor of Physics and an associate fellow of JILA. He obtained his BS in 2011 from Zhejiang University, China, and obtained his MS and PhD in 2015 and 2016 from the University of Maryland, College park. During his PhD, he developed the first spin-photon quantum switch and the first single-photon transistor using a solid-state spin. Before joining the faculty of JILA and the University of Colorado Boulder in 2020, Dr. Sun was a postdoctoral fellow (2017 – 2019) and a physical science research scientist (2019 – 2020) in the Ginzton Lab at Stanford University. His research lies in the areas of quantum optics, nanophotonics, and experimental quantum information science. His group studies strong light-matter interactions at the quantum limit by coupling solid-state artificial atoms with nanophotonic structures. The large flexibility in the design of nanophotonic structures offers an effective knob to study new phenomenons in quantum optics and many-body quantum physics. The same platform will also enable chip-integrated quantum photonic devices, which will find important applications in quantum networking, quantum sensing and distributed quantum computing.
